EU Delegation to Canada Leads EU Shoreline Cleanup Campaign in Ottawa, joining Delegations Worldwide

The EU Shoreline Cleanup Campaign in Ottawa, held on October 11 at Jacques Cartier Park, marked a significant step toward promoting environmental sustainability and community engagement. This event was part of a global initiative involving EU delegations, with 45,000 volunteers across 44 countries participating annually to contribute to awareness raising for a cleaner planet. Organized by the EU Delegation to Canada, in collaboration with Ottawa Riverkeeper and the National Capital Commission, the cleanup attracted volunteers from various EU Member States and local environmental organizations. Together, they worked to clean the waterfront at Jacques Cartier, raising awareness about river litter and its impact on the oceans and ecosystems.

More than 40 participants joined forces, collecting over 200 pounds of waste, including plastics, debris, and other pollutants threatening coastal environments. This initiative highlighted not only the necessity of environmental protection but also the critical role of community involvement in addressing global challenges such as pollution and climate change.

The EU Beach Cleanup Campaign reflects the European Union’s commitment to environmental sustainability and the protection of biodiversity. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the volunteers and partners whose contributions made this event possible.
