Canadian Film Institute’s 39th Annual European Union Film Festival starts 15 November

The 39th annual European Union Film Festival (EUFF) will take place in Ottawa from November 15 to 30. The EUFF features Ottawa premieres of 28 films, one from each of the 27 European Union member states and Ukraine. All screenings take place in the Alma Duncan Salon at the Ottawa Art Gallery.

Presented in partnership with the Delegation of the European Union to Canada and the embassies of EU Member States, the in-person EUFF will also take place in Vancouver and Toronto, and will be available online across Canada from 1 to 15 December.

“We are thrilled to return this year with the latest cinematic achievements from all corners of the European Union. The universal appeal of cinema is undeniable. An art form that magnifies life and our shared human experiences, cinema connects us across cultures, languages and borders.  I invite you to embark on this journey and gain new appreciation for Europe’s rich and diverse cinematic tapestry,” says Geneviève Tuts, Ambassador of the European Union to Canada.

The 39th EUFF kicks off on Friday, 15 November 2024, with Some Birds, a sensitive, uplifting tale of an unlikely friendship between an elderly man and a young woman.

“We are proud to present this 39th annual edition of the European Union Film Festival in Ottawa with our partners at the EU Delegation to Canada and the 27 EU Member States. We are also very proud of the 2024 EUFF line-up. There is literally something for everyone: from an animated feature for families to romcoms to historical dramas to offbeat tales for those who like their films more daring,” says Canadian Film Institute Executive Director, Tom McSorley.

The Festival will also welcome several guest filmmakers from the European Union.
