The European Union (EU) Delegation in Cameroon is pleased to announce the release of a factsheet on the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), with a special focus on the cocoa sector in Cameroon. The factsheet was developed by the European Forest Institute, with support from the EU. It provides a concise overview of the EU's ambition to minimise the risk that products associated with deforestation enter the EU market and increase the demand for deforestation-free products. It highlights the critical role of Cameroon, which is the world's largest cocoa-producing country.

The EUDR requires companies to ensure that the cocoa and cocoa products they import into the EU are produced in a manner that does not contribute to deforestation. The factsheet outlines the key provisions and obligations imposed on companies, in particular, to conduct due diligence.

The factsheet aims to raise awareness among stakeholders, including cocoa producers, traders and exporters, about the significance of sustainable cocoa production and responsible sourcing. It also serves as a valuable resource for all actors in the supply chain to navigate the requirements of the EUDR and contribute to the global fight against deforestation.

The EU Delegation encourages everyone involved in the cocoa sector in Cameroon to familiarise themselves with the factsheet. By working together, Cameroon and the EU can foster trade of sustainable cocoa,  that ensures the protection of forestsand supports the well-being of local communities.
