Europe Day 2023 in Cabo Verde

In honour of Europe Day, the EU Delegation to Cabo Verde held on 9th May a reception to more than 150 guests.

Members of Government, MPs, Former Head of State, First Lady, Diplomatic community, Senior Public Administration Officials, Business community, Representatives of NGOs and Journalists participated in the event. We offered to invitees live music with Cabo Verdean artists, European songs from all Member States and a display of videos with EU's achievements on Global Gateway, special partnership and cultural activities in Cabo Verde.

We offered to invitees live music with Cabo Verdean artists, European songs from all Member States and a display of videos with EU's achievements on Global Gateway, special partnership and cultural activities in Cabo Verde.

Beside the reception, the EU Delegation has prepared this year a #EuropeMonth with public activities from2 May to 10 June. There are activities with EU funded projects, Member States, Journalists, Civil society and authorities. Most of them are cultural, but there are also conferences, workshops and Master Classes on disinformation.  

During the reception, EU Ambassador, Ms Carla Grijó said: “As we celebrate Europe Day today, it is important to keep in mind that the EU is on its origin - a successful effort to promote peace and development. A construction rooted in the values of human dignity, freedom, democracy and the rule of law”.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Cabo Verde, Mr Olavo Correia, said: “… the celebration of Europe Day represents a crucial moment not only for Europe but for the world and particularly for Cabo Verde as a country which promotes peace, democracy, human rights and human dignity.” “Cabo Verde will continue supporting the international community's efforts to find a solution for peace in Ukraine and in the world.”

The Minister of Foreign Affairs prepared a declaration, congratulating the EU and the relations with Cabo Verde. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also released on 9 May a newsletter with most important activities on the 15 anniversary of the EU-CV Special Partnership.  

The Prime Minister and Head of State have both shared a message to their counterpart in Brussels, congratulating the EU and the EU Special Partnership. The Prime Minister stressed the EU as a reliable partner and the cooperation between parties in security, blue economy, digital and renewable energy. The Head of State reaffirmed the commitment of Cabo Verde on promoting peace, rule of law, multilateralism and human rights.
