What is consular protection for EU citizens?
Consular protection is the help that a Member State of the European Union can provide to its citizens in the event that they need assistance abroad.
Consular protection may be necessary in cases such as :
- A situation requiring emergency travel documents;
- A serious accident or illness;
- Emergency rescue and repatriation;
- Being the victim of a crime;
- Arrest or detention;
- Death.
Are you an EU citizen in need of consular protection in Burundi?
Germany, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Spain, Greece, Italy and Romania are represented by Embassies, Consulates or Honorary Consuls who can offer consular protection.
