“Child in the home” project - Umwana Mu Muryango (UMMU)
The project aims to protect children deprived of parental care, by promoting the strengthening and implementation of protection systems that allow them to realize their full potential. International Rescue Committee, the lead implementing partner, is in partnership with the Burundian NGO DUTABARANE for the implementation of the project activities in the Provinces of Bujumbura Mairie, Bujumbura Rural, Muyinga and Gitega.
This project contributed to operationalising the alternative care strategy for children, developed by the Ministry of National Solidarity, Social Affairs, Human Rights and Gender. It also enabled 448 street children to be reunited with their families. 719 families benefited from the unconditional cash transfer to better meet the primary needs of their children, 79 young people and 700 families benefited from income-generating activities, 9,600 households improved their knowledge of small business management and savings, and 90 children out of school from Muyinga were reintegrated into the school system.
