GLOBAL GATEWAY
The Global Gateway stands for sustainable and trusted connections that work for people and the planet. It helps to tackle the most pressing global challenges, from fighting climate change, to improving health systems, and boosting competitiveness and security of global supply chains.
In line with the Global Gateway strategy, the European Union (EU) engages with Brazil in fostering the transition towards sustainable and inclusive development. The priority areas of the Global Gateway and respective Investment Agenda include sustainable energy, digital connectivity, logistics and transport infrastructure and the development of the bioeconomy and sustainable value chains. In addition, European partners are supporting water and sanitation works. Providing sustainable finance to foster this ecological transformation is an overarching priority of the EU cooperation with Brazil.
In this context, the EU works closely with the embassies of EU member states, financial institutions and the private sector, within a "Team Europe" approach.
To promote the energy transition, Team Europe action in Brazil focuses on expanding renewable energy generation, transmission infrastructure and green hydrogen development.
Under the tropical forests theme, EU partners focus on promoting a sustainable bioeconomy, traceability along value chains, land restoration and forest conservation.
Work on digital transformation covers industrial and business cooperation, cooperation on market regulation aspects associated to the digital economy, academic and scientific cooperation, and cooperation on space technologies and services.
Global Gateway partnerships are based on six principles: Democratic values and high standards; good governance and transparency; equality in partnerships; green and clean infrastructure; prioritizing security; and catalyzing private sector investment.
