The Bangladesh Renewable Energy Facility (BREF), an EU Global Gateway Flagship project, is co-financed through an EU-guaranteed European Investment Bank (EIB) sovereign loan of EUR 350 million and a EUR 45 million EU grant. It aims to increase Bangladesh’s renewable energy share by supporting, in particular, utility-scale solar and wind power generation projects. EUR 6 million of the EU grant is allocated for Technical Assistance Services, while EUR 39 million will be used for investment grants in function of project risks and ambitions. The BREF expects to leverage EUR 700 million in total investments, including Team Europe and other co-financiers. This flagship project will be implemented by the EIB in partnership with the Power Division under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.

On 11 December 2024, the EIB launched the tender for the abovementioned Technical Assistance Services.
