Pathways to Prosperity for Extremely Poor People: changing people’s lives one village at a time
The Pathways to Prosperity for Extremely Poor People (PPEPP) project is contributing to poverty reduction and resilient livelihoods in 12 climate prone vulnerable districts of Bangladesh. The project is changing people’s lives one village at a time through community mobilisation in the following areas:
- Building disaster and climate resilience including addressing the impact of salinisation
- Boosting disability inclusion
- Supporting women’s empowerment
Through enterprise creation and resilience building, these interventions are expected to help the extremely poor households’ progress towards the mainstream socio-economic growth trajectory. The result would be a convergence of market forces that would lift the households towards the growth markets.
The project is implemented by Palli Karma Shahayak Foundation (PKSF) along with nine partner NGOs located at the targeted districts: Kurigram, Nilphamari, Gaibandha, Rangpur, Shatkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Bhola, Potuakhali, Kishorganj, Dinajpur and Thakurgaon.
At the end of its implementation period (from 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2025), the project expects to achieve the following objectives:
- Outcome 1: Sustained livelihoods and income generation amongst target households (SDG1, SDG2 and SDG13).
- Outcome 2: Improved nutritional wellbeing of the households, especially women and children, in target areas (SDG2 and SDG5).
- Outcome 3: Improved access to social and nutrition sensitive agriculture extension services amongst the target communities (SDG2).

EU Ambassador’s visit to PPEPP project in October 2023
The EU Ambassador to Bangladesh, Charles Whiteley, visited the PPEPP project at Shyamnagar Upazilla in Satkhira on 18 October 2023. He was accompanied by the Team Leader for Green Inclusive Development, Edwin KoekKoek, the Cooperation and Communication Coordinator, Sara Fonseca Silva and the Programme Manager for Resilient Livelihoods, Meher Nigar Bhuiyan. During the one-day visit, the EU team was able to interact with the beneficiaries of the Prosperity Village Committees, the Adolescent groups, as well as the Mother and Child Forum. The programme also included visit to a Prosperity House to see some income generating activities. The most challenging issue in the area, according to the beneficiaries of the project, is the salinity of water. PKSF has distributed some water tanks to the beneficiaries to hold rainwater, however government’s support is imminent to address this critical issue.
The EU Ambassador highly appreciated PKSF and its partner organisation NGF’s work to bring positive changes in the lives of the most climate induced and vulnerable people of Kaikhali Union of Shyamnagar Upazila of Satkhira District.
