Project Description

ASEAN Member States are taking steps to combat climate change by committing to the Paris Agreement and establishing their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). At the regional level, ASEAN Member States have laid the groundwork with the draft Strategic Plan on Environment (ASPEN) 2016-2025, assuring for a unified approach within ASEAN.

The ASEAN EU - German CAP aims to empower ASEAN to lead regional cooperation driving ambitious climate policies including sustainable energy.

What the project aims to achieve:

  • ASEAN’s ability to foster regional cooperation in advancing climate policies has been significantly strengthened.
  • ASEAN Member States are accelerating the shift towards renewable energy and enhancing energy efficiency.

To achieve the objectives, the project supports ASEAN and its Member States in coordinating and implementing regional climate and energy action. Our support focuses on five key areas:

  1. Enhancing capacities of ASEAN organisations by strengthening the skills and capabilities
  2. Increasing ASEAN's visibility in the international climate discussions
  3. Aligning climate policies among ASEAN Member States and promoting consistency in climate policies
  4. Fostering regional cooperation on energy: Supporting collaborative efforts on energy topics with significant climate impact
  5. Developing institutional abilities: Supporting regional and national institutions in creating and implementing energy policies aligned with climate objectives.
