AU PSC – EU PSC: 15th Annual Joint Consultative Meeting on Peace and Security in Africa
On 22 November 2024, the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (AU PSC) and the European Union (EU) Political and Security Committee (EU PSC) will hold their 15th Annual Joint Consultative Meeting, as part of their regular dialogue within the framework of the AU-EU Partnership.
The meeting will be co-chaired by H.E. Jean Léon Ngandu Ilunga, Permanent Representative of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Chairperson of the AU PSC for November 2024, and H.E. Delphine Pronk, the Permanent Chair of the EU PSC. The agenda will cover a number of peace and security situations and thematic areas of common interest on peace and security in Africa. This high-level meeting follows an informal consultation between the two organs in March 2024 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
These frequent meetings reaffirm the commitment of both Unions to further strengthening their strategic partnership and cooperation in the promotion of peace, security and stability both in Africa and Europe, and the shared commitment to effective multilateralism with the UN Charter at its core. Furthermore, they stress the importance of holistically addressing the structural root causes and drivers of conflict and instability on the basis of the nexus between peace, security and development, paying specific attention to the circumstances of youth, women and other vulnerable groups.
The EU and Africa maintain long-standing cooperation on peace, security and governance, as well as, a strong partnership on AU peace support operations and the Regional Economic Communities/Regional Mechanisms and, more generally, on the African Peace and Security Architecture.
