Currently, the Schengen area covers most of the countries of the European Union, except Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Ireland and Romania. Moreover, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, which are not members of the European Union, have joined the Schengen area.
Travelling to the European Union
The Delegation of the European Union to Cuba does not have consular functions. Thus, in order to complete the visa formalities necessary to travel to the Schengen area or to a Member State of the EU that is not part of it, you must contact the relevant embassy. The European Union offers various opportunities for exchange and cooperation in the fields of education, research and innovation:
- Erasmus +: It offers opportunities for students and teachers in higher education institutions in any country around the world to cooperate with European Union Member States and Erasmus + partner countries, through capacity-building projects, joint master’s programmes, and student and teacher exchange. Erasmus + projects involving Cuba.
- Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions: They provide support for the training and professional development of researchers at all stages of their careers, in the public and private sectors, through financing cooperation on innovative training, staff exchange and individual fellowships. Marie Skłodowska-Curie projects with participants from Cuba.
- Horizon 2020: EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation addressing scientific excellence, industrial leadership and social challenges, financing cooperation in research and innovation projects, as well as coordination and support actions.
