Who we are
Established in 1976, the EU Delegation in Ottawa is the natural contact point in Canada between EU and Canadian authorities. It also has a strong public diplomacy mandate designed to enhance the knowledge and understanding of the European Union and EU-Canada relations.

EU Delegations and offices around the world are part of the European External Action Service (EEAS) – the European Union’s diplomatic service, established under the 2009 Treaty of Lisbon. They operate under the authority of the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the Commission, Mr. Josep Borrell Fontelles.
Delegations represent the interests of the EU and EU citizens around the globe, the voice of the EU as a whole abroad.
What we do
The Delegation of the European Union to Canada covers all policy areas of the bilateral relationship between the EU and Canada.
It conducts public diplomacy activities, aimed at keeping Canadians up-to-date on current developments in the European Union. The Delegation also keeps the Union in Brussels abreast of significant developments in Canada.
The Delegation is a natural point of contact between the EU and the Canadian authorities, as well as for others in Canada wishing to know more about the EU and its policies.
The Delegation is happy to hear from you and receive inquiries about the EU and its policies, and about EU-Canada relations.
How we work
The Delegation of the European Union to Canada was established in 1976. The Head of the Delegation is formally accredited as the official representative of the European Union to the government of Canada with the rank and courtesy title of Ambassador.
The Delegation has three sections:
- Political and Public Affairs Section.
- Trade and Economic Section.
- Administration Section.
EU at ICAO
Canada-EU cooperation helps safeguard the skies. The EU runs an office responsible for relations with UN's International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal since 2005.
