Actions of the European Union in Benin

Since the creation of the first European Development Fund in 1957, Benin has benefited from more than 1.5 billion euros (1 billion FCFA) invested in all priority sectors for a fair and sustainable development of the country and its population.

The EU is one of Benin's most important partners in the governance sector, including public finance reform and the fight against corruption as well as decentralization for better management and resolution of problems at the local level.

The EU is also committed to the development of key sectors of the economy, particularly agriculture and energy, in order to contribute to access to electricity for Beninese people.

It also supports the strengthening of a strong and diverse civil society, which is at the heart of public policies.

The EU in Benin continues to promote the defense of human rights, the rule of law and values.
