Algeria has been for years one of the most important third countries in terms of the number of Schengen visas applicants. Each year more than 300,000 uniform Visas are issued to Algerian nationals, of which about a third with multiple entries. The number of Algerian nationals who legally reside in the EU for family, study, work or other reasons is even higher.
COVID-19 Pandemic
Restrictions on non-essential travel to the EU
As part of the measures to contain the spread of Covid-19, the EU Council adopted in 2020 a recommendation concerning the temporary restriction of non-essential travel to the EU. This recommendation is still in force. The recommendation is implemented by EU countries, which have the final decision on travel restrictions to be applied, at their borders, to people from non-EU countries.
The list of countries for which the Member States should gradually lift travel restrictions is reviewed and, if necessary, updated every two weeks.
Travel in the Schengen Area
Get a VISA
Algerian nationals who want to travel to the Schengen area must apply for a Schengen visa at the embassy or consulate general of the country concerned. In the context of a trip involving several countries in the Schengen area, the Member State competent to examine a visa application is the state of the main destination.
The EU Visa Code does not require from you to start a trip to the Schengen area by arriving in the territory of the Member State, which issued the visa. It is indeed common to start your journey through a Member State that has not issued the visa (air connections, short stays, etc.). However, it is necessary to be able to show, at each border crossing and throughout a stay, the supporting documents (purpose of the stay, means of subsistence and accommodation, insurance, transport tickets between the country of arrival and the country of destination). This will make it possible to both justify the stay in the country of first arrival and identify the main destination of the trip.
Multiple entry visas holders are also subject to this requirement. Failure to present these supporting documents may result in the refusal to enter into the Schengen area.
Embassies and Consulates
Where to apply for a VISA?
For a Schengen visa you can apply to one of the Member States of the Schengen area which have a diplomatic and / or consular presence in Algeria, and which sometimes represent another
Member State. Some of them work with an external service provider, including VFS Global, TLS contact or BLS International. We would like to warn you that no other entity is authorized to act as an intermediary and / or to provide services relating to the issuance of Schengen or national visas.
New EU rules for short-stay visas have applied worldwide since February 2, 2020. They simplify visa application formalities for legitimate travellers who wish to travel to the Union, while planning the request for increased resources to address the risks of illegal migration and threats to national security.
Studying in the EU
Learning and multicultural melting pot
Erasmus + is the EU program in the fields of education, training, youth and sport. Between 2014 and 2020, it has provided opportunities for four million people to study, train and gain life experience abroad.
Erasmus+ replaces a number of older programmes, including an international exchange programme called Erasmus Mundus.
